Family time in Charleston

Over the last week-end, we got a chance to visit one of the most beautiful cities in South Carolina - Charleston.

Charleston is not only the best-mannered city in America but also one of the oldest. Founded as Charles Towne in 1670, it was one of the ten largest cities in the United States up until 1840. At just under 120,000 residents, its growth hasn’t kept pace with many of the other large U.S. cities, but every year its population swells by nearly four million as tourists arrive to take advantage of Charleston’s history, dining, shopping, cultural attractions, and genteel southern charm.

Charleston’s rich, extensive history is a huge draw for tourists. The entire downtown is designated as a National Historic Landmark and the city focuses its attention on preserving its stately architecture. We enjoyed our downtown horse carriage tour very much!

The boat tour around Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter gave us a glimpse of its history, where the Civil War begun. The fort is best known as the site upon which the shots initiating the American Civil War were fired, at the Battle of Fort Sumter.

Next day we visited Magnolia Plantation and its Gardens, one of the U.S.’s oldest public garden as well as the plantation on its grounds, still owned by the same family after more than three centuries.

Week-endul trecut am avut şansa de a vizita unul din cele mai frumoase orase din Carolina de Sud -Charleston.

Charleston nu este doar unul dintre cel elegante orase din America, dar şi una dintre cele mai vechi. Fondat sub numele de Charles Towne, în 1670, a fost unul dintre cele mai mari zece orase din Statele Unite până în 1840. La doar 120000 locuitori, creşterea acesteia nu a ţinut pasul cu multe din alte oraşe mari din SUA, dar în fiecare an, populaţia sa creste cu aproape patru milioane de turişti care sosesc pentru a profita de istoria Charleston-ului, restaurante, cumparaturi, atracţii culturale, şi a farmecului ospitalier sudist.

Bogatia istorica a Charlestonului atrage multi turisti. Centrul orasului este desemnat ca obiectiv turistic istoric la nivel national naţional şi oraşul isi concentrează atenţia pe conservarea arhitecturii sale impunătoare. Ne-a placut foarte mult turul orasului cu caleasca!

Turul cu barca in jurul Portului Charleston şi Fort Sumter ne-a dat ocazia sa intelegem o mica parte din istoria orasului, si anume începutul războiului civil. Fortul este cel mai bine cunoscut ca punct de pornire al primelor focuri din Războiul civil american, la Bătălia de la Fort Sumter.

A doua zi am vizitat Plantatia Magnolia si Gradinile ei, una dintre cele mai vechi grădini publice din Statele Unite, încă deţinute de aceeaşi familie, după mai mult de trei secole.

Paul started daycare!

After two months of summer vacation, Paul started daycare! He was sleepy but excited on his first day.

Dupa doua luni de vacanta, Paul merge din nou la gradinita. A fost putin somnoros, dar incantat in prima zi!

Wonderful promise

On August 5th Florin and I are celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary. The wedding's motto was Jeremiah 29:11 ‘’ For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’’. Looking back on the past three years, I can see how wonderful God fulfilled His promise made in this verse in our lives and I know that he will continue to bless us if we stay close to Him and His Word.


Pe data de 5 august eu si Florin sarbatorim 3 ani de casnicie. Motto-ul nuntii noastre a fost Ieremia 29:11 ‘’Caci eu stiu gandurile pe care le am cu privire la voi, zice Domnul, ganduri de pace si nu de nenorocire, ca sa va dau un viitor si o nadejde’’. Uitandu-ma inapoi la acesti 3 ani pot sa spun ca Dumnezeu si-a implinit promisiunea facuta prin acest verset in vietile noastre si stiu ca va continua sa ne binecuvinteze daca stam langa El si Cuvantul Lui.

Shopping for a new computer

I want to share how we got a new computer a couple of days ago. Our Dell laptop was running out of space and speed so we decided to get a new computer, fearing that we might loose all the information we have. Not sure if we should get a desktop or another laptop we decided to get a desktop after all. Florin did a bit of research on the internet and visited a few stores in Myrtle Beach hunting some deals.

Sears was the first store on the list, but they don’t keep computers in stores anymore, only online. Then we went to Best Buy and had a look at a nice HP laptop that fitted our budget, it had a good processor, enough memory and nice compact style – and almost bought it. But then I said to Florin ‘’let’s go and have a look at desktops’’.

While searching Florin got into a conversation with an older lady who was looking for a computer as well, and showed him a flyer from Office Depot with a fantastic HP desktop deal - good price after mail in rebate, better than Best Buy could offer. In no time we were on our way to Office Depot and got our new PC.

While leaving the store, we saw the lady we met earlier at Best Buy with her husband entering the store. They were coming to get the same desktop as well…but unfortunately the store was closing. Florin told the lady who was closing to let them in because they want to buy the same desktop as we did – so she did.

Florin and I were talking on our way home that probably God sent this lady on our way to give us much needed information at the right time and place. And now we’re just enjoying our new computer!

CUMPARAND UN COMPUTER NOU

As vrea sa va spun cum ne-am cumparat computer in urma cu doua zile. Laptopul nostru Dell mergea foarte incet si nu mai aveam spatiu de stocare asa incat ne-am hotarat sa cumparam un computer nou, temandu-ne ca am putea pierde toate informatiile de pe cel vechi. Nefiind siguri daca voiam sa cumparam un alt laptop sau un desktop, ne-am hotarat pentru un desktop. Florin s-a informat de pe internet, a vizitat cateva magazine apoi am mers impreuna in Myrtle Beach in cautarea unei oferte cat mai bune.

Primul magazin pe lista noastra a fost Sears, dar din pacate nu mai vand computere in magazin, doar online. Am plecat la Best Buy si am vazut un laptop HP, care se incadra in bugetul nostru, memorie mare, compact – si aproape l-am cumparat. Dar i-am spus lui Florin sa mergem sa ne uitam si la desktop-uri. In timpul cautarii noastre, Florin a intrat in vorba cu o doamna mai in varsta care era de asemenea in cautarea unui computer; aceasta i-a aratat lui Florin un pliant de la Office Depot cu o oferta desktop HP la un pret foarte bun, cei de la Best Buy neavand o oferta pe masura. Intr-un timp scurt am ajuns la Office Depot si am cumparat computerul.

In timp ce ieseam din magazin, ne-am intalnit cu doamna care ne-a spus de oferta si sotul ei – veneau si ei sa cumpere acelasi computer , dar din pacate era ora inchiderii. Florin i-a spus doamnei care inchidea sa-I lase inauntru pentru ca vor sa cumpere si ei acelasi computer – si i-au lasat.

Vobeam cu Florin pe drum ca probabil Dumnezeu a trimis-o pe doamna aceasta in calea noastra sa ne dea o informatie – tocmai ce ne lipsea. Iar acum ne bucuram de computerul nostru!
